No. 'Chemical Processing Technician' is my official job discription. I talk with the Chemical Engineers, work out the schedule for the cooks, etc, etc.....Then I go and translate all that to the plant operaters and oversee things getting done, while running the reactor and doing QC testing and what not in the laboratory.

At any one time there are at least two of us on site at all times, so when the Engineers go home for the night, we're in charge.

The only chemists our company employs all work out of our main facility in Sydney.

Turns out the fire wasn't started how I'd guessed. When the resin, 9 tonne of it, came spewing out the column, it was a full 40min until somehow the resin seems to have reacted with atmosphere and self ignited. This was supposedly not something that could happen. Apparently our chemists in technical over in Sydney, have been trying to recreate it, to better understand how it happened, etc, etc....

They're all quite excited about it apparently......having a chemical mystery to solve.
Congrats on doing the Uni thing, if I could go back in time and do it all again, I would definetly have gone to Uni. Oh well :)
When you get to job hunting, just remember, resins may be fun, but the monies in petrolium and gas!

looks like it was a huge accident ..did anyone get hurt? gotta say.. taking care of chemical plants doesn't excite me very much.
I'm almost accepting the idea of working w/ oil and gas... everything here is about oil, gas and biotechnology :/
