Firearms not with standing, What's your favorite weapon to train with/ use and why? I like my jo staff and i like knives. Both are practical weapons for me to train with as i always have a knife and usually can find a broom handle that works just like my staff.
I like to keep it simple and Filipino ... I would have to go with either my kali stick or a knife. I like the speed and reach of the stick. When I use a knife I usually use pretty scary looking ones just for the intimidation factor. My top choice are balisong, karambit and kukri. Most of them would cause a "bag guy" to reconsider how badly he wanted to continue just based on the damage potential.
jo and bo staff - practical because im a gardener i walk around with tools resembling a staff all day, also because of this i feel so they come naturaly to me
I have to say I'm with Aaron on this one........my hardwood Kali Sticks, with knives I looooove the bigger, the sharper, the better!!! Karambit or Balisong probably. Oh and if I am allowed to be greedy I'd have to add a sword or two, oh and a spear! Why?? The Kali Sticks I hold dear to my heart, passed down to me from my Guro, which were passed down from his Guro, Dan Innosanto, the spear because it was left to me, the swords and daggers........just because they are scary lookin and I looooove them....respects my bladed warrior xXx
Since ruling out my weapons of choice (40 cal. firearm ) that's my service weapon, I prefer Kali stick or staff. Now days it tough to say because you can't carry anything around with you legally! I love to train with single or double nunchuk, knives, Katana swords to be able to use them. I try to train with things that I might find on the street or in any situation that comes up on a daily basis. I work in law enforcement. You would be surprized at what you see out there! Master Fahy
Can I add to my list Ian.........more of my favourite weapons are my elbows, my knees and head, or heid if from Scotland.......respects, peace and love my bladed warrior XXxxXX
Mine is of course the katana, but I love knives of all sorts. Really like tantos. Speaking of tantos anyone know a good sword polisher? Have a L6 Bainite Otanto that needs to be polished and mounted made by Howard Clark.
I prefer FMA stick / knife. Sticks can range from all sizes, pass metal dectors, and are very effective.
Bo Staff and sai are my favs out of the ones i've trained with. Got right into sai by watching teenage muntant ninja turtles... awesome weapon.. also just started playing with and putting a kata together with a 3 section staff.. having good fun smacking myself in the head with it
This is why I'm so happy I got to start with the foam versions of the 3 section staff. My head doesn't look like a hillside, lol.
I have the ratten ones so its at least not hard wood... once they moving fast its fine... its just the transitioning from slow to fast and fast to slow that i'm struggling with.. combining moves together. know of any good instructional vids? only decent ones i seem to fine on you tube are in chinese
Other than a firearm (extremely rare to need that) the weapon that I have in my hand the most often in situations where I'm most likely to use something as a weapon is my Maglite flashlight. Used to love my karambits, but they can get caught* in what you're cutting. Which thinking on it later makes perfect sense since it's said they were inspired by a tiger claw, and cats big and small use the claws to hold prey while they bite the neck to finish. So any blade I use now has at least some curvature, which also facilitates flow for FMA (Vee Arnis Jitsu for me). *a simple safe test is try to cut a steak with a karambit. results should be pretty consistent.
As far as Asian Weapons are concerned... I like my Butterfly blades - Their use translates really well from Escrima. But I also like my medieval weapoms, either broad sword and shield, or two - hander. My all time fave weapon combo is actually sword and axe!
Katana and Jian swords. I adore swords of all natures and designs. I'm hoping to join an Iaido school within the next few month and purchase my first Iaito. I'd like to talk with you Blade Maker on this subject sometime
short sword and 30 inch round shield. the shield is great for punching. most people dont expect someone to use a shield as a weapon.
